Orion Constellation
Greek Mythology
Orion was a giant and extraordinarily handsome hunter in Greek mythology. Depending on the version of the myth, he was either the son of Poseidon, who granted him the ability to walk on water, or a mortal with exceptional hunting skills. He was closely associated with the goddess of the hunt, Artemis, and their relationship is central to his story.Orion's death has multiple versions: in one, he boasted that he would kill all the animals on Earth, so Gaia sent a scorpion to kill him. In another, the god Apollo, jealous of his relationship with Artemis, tricked her into killing him. There is also a version where Artemis herself kills him to protect her chastity. After his death, Orion was placed in the sky as a constellation. The Scorpion was placed opposite him, and it is said that when Orion rises, the Scorpion sets, creating an eternal chase across the heavens.
